As alumnae/i of the Sacred Heart we share an image of Mary that we call our own- our “Mater Admirabilis”.
In January of this year when I was travelling in northern Italy with my husband we were invited to visit a shrine/chapel that has been created by a friend of mine in thanksgiving for the life of her brother who was injured in an accident in Sydney far from his native Italy.
My friend Franca so loved the image of Mater at the Trinita’in Rome, where she prayed as a young woman, that she has had a beautiful reproduction painted in a roadside grotto near her country house in the mountain town of Valbrona on the Lecco side of Lake Como.(see photos below)

“The deepest level of communication is not communication. It is communion. It is wordless. It is beyond words; and it is beyond speech; and it is beyond concept. Not that we discover a new unity. We discover an older unity. My dear (sisters), we are already one. But we imagine that we are not. And what we have to recover is our original unity. What we have to be is what we are” (Thomas Merton)
"Nothing is more important for people of our time than to recover the capacity for silence. Silence is the medium of unity. <http://www.wccm.org/splash.asp?pagestyle=default>
