" Religious of the Sacred Heart - rscj"
What is the Society of the Sacred Heart?
The Society of the Sacred Heart is an international Catholic religious
congregation of women. It was founded in France in 1800 by St Madeleine
Sophie Barat. It carries on its mission through the Church by making known
the revelation of God's love, whose source and symbol is for them the
Heart of Christ.
In
1882, five Religious of the Sacred Heart arrived on board the SS Orient.
These five Foundresses had travelled from England to establish a school
of the Sacred Heart here in Sydney. After careful exploration, they accepted
the residence, called Claremont on the Vaucluse peninsula, to begin their
task of offering students the educational vision and spirituality of Saint
Madeleine Sophie Barat, the founder of their Society.
